Students’ Top Tips for your PhD

”As soon as possible, provide a clear plan of your project to your supervisor. This takes the form of the grant proposal in the first year, but this plan will definitely change. Keep updating this plan so your goals are always clear.”

”Make sure your data is well organised for when you need to write-up your thesis’’

”If you are struggling with making progress in your project, don’t lose motivation. The earlier you get to work, and the more you work at it, the sooner the problems will be solved.”

”Meet up as a cohort more. You’ll be surprised how many people are going through the same highs and lows as yourself.”

Make the most of all the training and courses available!”

”Talk to the rest of your cohort about your research regularly, you never know where inspiration or the solution to a problem will come from.”

”You’ll thank yourself for anything you’ve written previously when you sit down to write your thesis!”

”Start writing early!……”
